On September 26, 2017, EJEC organized “EJEC-AIT Seminar on Disaster Risk Reduction and Infrastructure Development in Asian Region – For E-J Global Challenge 2020” at its Tokyo Headquarters to which guest speakers from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) of Thailand and AIT Solutions, a subordinate organization of AIT, were invited.
This seminar was organized with the main purposes of 1.further development and branding of EJEC’s technological strength in terms of disaster prevention and structural design and 2.strengthening of industry-academia cooperation with AIT and AIT Solutions to promote the expanding overseas business of EJEC in Asia.
Representing EJEC, one disaster prevention engineer and two bridge delivered presentations. In addition, special lectures were delivered by Professor Pennung Warnitchai of AIT on the “Key issues of disaster risk reduction in Asia”, Professor Fumio Yamazaki of the Graduate School of Engineering, Chiba University on the “Monitoring and prediction of earthquake damage in Japan” and Dr. Naveed Anwar of AIT Solutions on “Bridge infrastructure in the ASEAN and South Asian Region: An overview of opportunities and challenges”. Meanwhile, a summary of the seminar was concluded by Professor Mitsutaka Sugimoto of Nagaoka University of Technology.
The seminar was held in English and simultaneously transmitted to EJEC’s Okayama Headquarters, branches and offices via a TV conference system. A total of some 250 people attended the seminar and a lively Q & A session and discussions took place after the lectures.
EJEC is determined to steadily strengthen its cooperative relationship -with AIT and AIT Solutions while continually exploring and developing its business in Asia.
