National Highway 3 is a trunk road starting in Addis Ababa, the capital, and reaching the national border with Eritrea after passing through three most important agricultural states in the country. It is also important as an artery for international physical distribution as it is expected to become much busier in the future as part of the Trans East African Highway promoted by the ECA (United Nations Economic Commission for Africa),with it being the road for importing petroleum from Sudan and exporting necessities to Sudan.
This rehabilitation project involves the improvement of a mountain road with a slope of averagely 8% and the construction of a new bridge across the Nile.
The total length of the construction work is 40 km. Through a JV with Oriental Consultants, EJEC was responsible for the design and construction supervision.
