Nakanokura Pass where the scenery is featured on the 1,000 yen banknote (Yamanashi Prefecture)
Taking the opportunity of the inscription of Mt. Fuji on the World Heritage List (cultural heritage) in June, 2013, the Ministry of the Environment, Yamanashi and Shizuoka Prefectural Governments and others have been proceeding with the improvement of Mt. Fuji’s viewpoints, walking trails, etc. so that people can enjoy not only climbing to the top of the mountain but also a high quality experience with the sommas and midslope (Fifth Station) of Mt. Fuji.
EJEC has been involved in various improvement works to convey the charm of Mt. Fuji with due consideration of the creation of a landscape value of Mt. Fuji as a World Heritage site and also to ensure safety of its visitors. Such works include the preparation of a plan to improve such viewpoints at Mt. Fuji as the Nakanokura Pass (Minobu Town, Yamanashi Prefecture) which is featured in the design of the Japanese 1,000 yen banknotes, the design of signposts for “Okuniwa” (around the Fourth Station at Mt. Fuji), which is one of the most splendid scenic spots of Mt. Fuji and the design of a viewing plaza at the Fifth Station park, which is the end of the toll road (Fuji Subaru Line).
