EJEC established its Myanmar Office in Yangon, Myanmar and held an opening ceremony on September 22, 2018.
The Myanmar Office is EJEC’s second overseas office following the establishment of the Bangkok Representative Office in Thailand in 2014. It is hoped that this office will accelerate information gathering, networking the exploration of feasible projects in Myanmar, thereby enhancing EJEC’s businesses in Southeast Asia.
In Myanmar which is often called “the last frontier”, the development of social infrastructure to support economic growth and to eliminate the gap with theregion is rapidly progressing with ODA of various donors and assistance of many international aid organizations. Meanwhile, the country is facing many difficult issues, including the management of deteriorated existing infrastructure and preparedness for frequent natural disasters. As it is believed to be essential for the growth and utilization of the domestic construction industry to deal with these issues to sustain its growth, the Myanmar Office was opened for the following purposes:

  1. Understanding of the trends of ODA of donors and assistance of international aid organizations, exploration of projects and assistance for preparation of new proposals
  2. Provision of consulting services on bridge construction and conservation and disaster prevention or Myanmar Ministry of Construction and local governments, etc.
  3. Winning from surveying to design contracts, PPP projects, and design/ construction batch ordering business, etc.

In preparation for the planned upgrading of the branch office to a local subsidiary in three years, EJEC intends to expand its local business in surveying as well as design of roads, bridges, etc. and disaster prevention work, for which it has rich experience as stepping stones with a view to gradually expanding the scope of its businesses to the environmental and waste treatment fields, among others.
14 EJEC personnels, including President Kotani, Head of Overseas Business Mr. Nakaseko, Director of International Department Mr. Hagiwara, andChief Representative of the Myanmar Office Mr. Miyamoto, attended the ceremony. In addition, some 80 people from various governmental bodies, private enterprises, etc. in Japan and Myanmar also attended the ceremony> They included distinguished guests like Japanese Ambassador to Myanmar Maruyama, Chief Representative of the JICA Myanmar Office Mr. Karasawa, Head of the JETRO Yangon Office Mr. Tanaka, Vice-Minister of Construction of Myanmar, and Chairman of the Myanmar Engineering Society (MES).
In their speeches, the guests expressed their expectations for EJEC’s diverse contributions to Myanmar, and warm encouragement.
